Brampton man arrested and charged in Elnaz Hajtamiri kidnapping investigation

28th September 2022 – York Regional Police has now arrested a second man named Harshdeep Binner, 24-year-old, hailing from Brampton.

On 20th December 2021, police responded to a call that a female victim, later identified as Elnaz Hajtamiri, was attacked by two male assailants and struck with a frying pan in an underground parking garage. The incident was reported by a concerned citizen and the suspects fled the crime scene in a stolen vehicle. The victim was shifted to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The stolen vehicle was later recovered.

On 13th April 2022, the first suspect, Riyasat Singh, 23, of Brampton was arrested and charged with:

  • Attempted Murder
  • Attempted kidnapping
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $ 5,000
  • Mischief over $ 5,000

During the same time, a Canada-wide arrest warrant was issued for Harshdeep Binner.

Binner was arrested on 19th September and is now facing the below charges:

  • Attempted Murder
  • Attempted kidnapping
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $ 5,000
  • Mischief over $ 5,000

Both assailants are now in custody and will appear in court.
