Governor General announces new list of Order of Canada; list includes two with background in India
3rd July 2022 – Created in 1967 by Queen Elizabeth II, the Order of Canada honors people whose service shapes the Canadian society, whose innovations ignite imaginations and whose compassion unites the communities. Over 7,600 people have received one of highest honor in the country.
The office of the Governor General of Canada, Mary Simon, has announced 85 new appointments to the Order of Canada.
The wide list of recipients includes two people whose background is from India.
Ajay K. Agrawal, a professor of entrepreneurship at U of T’s Rotman School of Management, was named a Member of the Order for “his visionary leadership as an educator and entrepreneur, and for his mentorship of students and aspiring business owners.” He’s the founder and academic director of the Creative Destruction Lab, a not-for-profit program for early-stage, science-based companies. Agrawal is known for his research on the economics of artificial intelligence, science policy, entrepreneurial finance and geography of innovation.
Parminder S. Raina, has been honored for his leading research in ageing and population health in Canada and for his impact on national policymaking in geriatric care services. A faculty at McMaster University, Raina specializes in the epidemiology of aging with emphasis on developing the interdisciplinary field of Geroscience to understand the processes of aging from cell to society. He has expertise in epidemiologic modeling, systematic review methodology, injury, and knowledge transfer.
