Suspects held in hate-related crime in Mississauga

17th September 2021 – Peel Regional Police has arrested and charged 2 suspects who were related to a hate-related crime against a Mississauga family.

 

 

 

 

 

In a racial attack, the family was attacked by 2 persons in their teens. Last Saturday, at around 5:30 PM, the teenagers attacked the victim and his family while they were conducting a faith ceremony in the area of Barbertown and Mississauga Road in the City of Mississauga. They shouted derogatory and racial slurs and assaulted the family. While the family tried to rushed to flee in their car, they pelted stones at the car.

After thorough investigation and using the dashcam footage received from the community, the Police was able to charge the 2 suspects on 14th September 2021. The 16-year-old male youth has been charged with:

  • Assault
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Mischief over $ 5000
  • Mischief with Bias

The other attacker, 15-year-old male youth from Mississauga has been charged with:

  • Assault
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Mischief over $ 5000
  • Mischief with Bias

Both of the youth will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on a future date in answer to the charges.

A general provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (Y.C.J.A.) prohibits the release of the name of a Young Person and, therefore, the identities of the Young Persons charged in this investigation are protected.
