RCMP arrests one on allegations of terrorism

23rd March 2023 – After receiving vital inputs from Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has arrested one 18-year-old man, Mohamed Amine Assal, of Ville Saint-Laurent in the province of Quebec.

In a short investigation conducted by Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET), the RCMP found reasonable grounds to fear that an individual may commit a terrorism offence. At the moment, the investigation is still undergoing and the charges against the suspect may be formed at a later stage.

The small operation was aimed at disrupting the suspicious activities of the suspect.

RCMP encourages the citizens to be their eyes and ears and remain vigilant of any suspicious activity around them. Citizens may report any information on terrorism or related suspicious activity to the National Security Information Network (1800-420-5805) or any local police department.

RCMP regularly provides information on how to recognize and report behaviors that may be linked to hate crimes, radicalization to violence, extremist propaganda and terrorism mobilization.
