India business body NASSCOM signs multi-million MOU with City of Brampton
10th May 2022 – Last week, the City of Brampton announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the premier Indian trade and business body NASSCOM (National Association of Software and Services Companies) to establish a Launchpad program in Brampton.
NASSCOM, which was established in late 1980s as non-profit organization, is the apex body for 227 billion dollar Indian technology industry. It has over 3000 member companies including both Indian and international organizations that have a presence in India. It focuses on accelerating the pace of transformation of the industry to emerge as the preferred enablers for global digital transformation.
The City of Brampton has aimed for significant transformation with a growing innovation and technology sector which would provide multiple business opportunities for global businesses.
In 2019, the City committed to invest over $20 million in its innovation district which is located in Downtown Brampton. The district has a sharp focus on start-up scaling, investment attraction and talent development and provides local support for entrepreneurs and new businesses. Apart from these objectives, it provides resources for innovation and technology companies to advance their work.
NASSCOM’s Launchpad program was initially announced in November 2021 after its delegation had visited Canada. The program aims to promote cross-border trade and provide the Indian tech companies an opportunity to expand their business in the North American market.
“Through strengthening relations with international partners like NASSCOM, we’re continuing to advance Brampton’s profile globally while providing local economic benefits” said Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown.
City of Brampton is only Canadian city which has been chosen for NASSCOM’s program expansion. Brampton is one of the fastest growing cities in Canada and is home to over 700,000 people and 75,000 plus businesses.
