Brampton Radio Host assaulted in broad daylight; case under investigation
24th February 2022 – Frontline Radio’s host and realtor Deepak Punj was attacked by three unknown assailants in broad daylight at his studio in Brampton on the afternoon of 23rd February. The attack was also captured on camera that showed him being attacked physically and verbal abuses hurled at him.
Punj has been vocal on his radio show against the Khalistan movement which aims to create a separate Sikh nation out of India. In his latest talk show this week, he talked of the deceased Punjabi actor, Deep Sidhu and questioned the need of the vigil that took place at Brampton’s City Hall on last Tuesday in memory of the actor. The vigil was attended by the local councilor Harkirat Singh and Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown.
An official report of the attack has been filed with the Peel Regional Police and the matter is under investigation. Mayor Brown and Mr Singh tweeted on the issue and asked for a speedy investigation by the law enforcement authorities.
The vigil drew a strong response from the Indian government which featured anti-India slogans and posters that read #IndiaKills. The Indian authorities have submitted a demarche to Global Affairs Canada and the provincial Ontario government.
