Peel Police makes multiple arrests in motor vehicle theft investigation; man from Brampton charged
14th May 2022 – In a series of arrests, Peel Regional Police has laid charges in two separate incidents involving motor vehicle thefts.
Last Tuesday, 10th May 2022 at about 3:15 a.m., police were informed about a theft in progress in the area of Bloor Street and Fieldgate Drive in Mississauga. Upon reaching the crime spot, the police arrested two males in relation to the theft. The perpetrators had multiple blank key fobs and master computer key programmer which is used to reprogram fobs.
Navdeep Chauhan, 24-year-old, Brampton is charged with:
- Possessing Automobile Master Key (x4)
- Possession of device to obtain Computer Service
Arshjot Singh, 24-year-old, Caledon is charged with:
- Mischief over $ 5,000
- Theft of Motor Vehicle
- Possession of Automobile Master Key (x4)
- Possession of device to obtain Computer Service
Both were released and would appear at Ontario Court of Justice at a later date
In other incident, on 6th May 2022, at 12:43 p.m., the Police conducted a stop on Highway 410S and 401. Three males in a Nissan Murano from Quebec were found in possession of multiple blank key fobs,master computer key programmer and large quantity of cash.
YassineAfi, 18-year-old, is charged with:
- Possession of Automobile Master Key (x7)
- Possession of device to obtain Computer Service (x2)
- Possession of property obtained by crime
17-year-old is charged with:
- Possession of Automobile Master Key (x7)
- Possession of device to obtain Computer Service (x2)
- Possession of an identity document
Another 17-year-old is charged with:
- Possession of Automobile Master Key (x7)
- Possession of device to obtain Computer Service (x2)
- Possession of property obtained by crime
All were released and are set to appear at Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
A provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) prohibits the release of the name of a young person and hence, the identity was kept protected.
On these arrests, the Peel Police Chief Rob Higgs noted that “exceptional work done by investigators. These arrests have thwarted vehicle thefts from occurring within Region of Peel and causing the loss of thousands of dollars for the members of our community”.
