Only 34% Americans think that the country is moving in the right direction, latest poll

5th October 2021 – As per the latest poll conducted by AP-NORC at the Chicago University, only 34% Americans believe that the country is heading in the right direction. The percentage is about half of what it was when Joe Biden took over the presidency. This is a significant fall from the first few months of his presidency which began in January this year.

In April, 54% thought that the country was on a right course and only 44% said it was going in the wrong direction.

Joe Biden is facing numerous challenges including the rising COVID-19 numbers in the U.S. As against July, his approval rating has fallen from 66% to 57% in August. The Afghanistan debacle is yet another issue which has hurt Biden’s approval ratings. 65% of the respondents did not approve how he handled the Afghanistan situation.

50% of the respondents still approve him as a President and 49% have disapproved him.

The poll was conducted between 23rd-27th September and 1099 adults participated through online and telephonic interviews. The margin of sampling error is +/- 4.2 percentage points.
