Object was to create fear in Hindu community, threaten them to leave country: Delhi Court while framing charges against 10 for Delhi Riots

20th December 2021 – The Karkardooma Court in North-East Delhi has framed charges against 10 for the offences of rioting, looting and setting ablaze a workshop during the Delhi Riots which shook the National Capital of India in February 2020.

In the case of State vs. Mohd. Shahnawaz and 9 others, FIR was registered by Jagdish Prasad on 3rd March 2020 wherein it was stated that the rioters had burnt down his auto spare parts shop run by his son Shekhar Bhardwaj on 25th February 2020. The victims reported that they saw a large mob armed with stones and other weapons attacked their shop. They reported that the rioters hit the lock of the shop with kicks, stones, rods, etc. in order to break it. The mob threw petrol bomb in the shop due to which the shop was completely burnt down. All rioters raised slogans against Hindus and said “we would throw these infidels from the country, would kill them and would kidnap the daughters of Hindus.” They were hurling abuses and kept saying “Hindu Murdabad”.

Upon hearing both sides, the court has framed charges against the accused for unlawful assembly on the day of the crime.
