Mayor Brown mishandled the Brampton violence, says Hindu Forum Canada. Questions double standards by City Mayor

7th November 2024 – In a series of questions raised by Hindu Forum Canada (HFC), the premier Hindu advocacy group in Canada has questioned the way the recent violence in Brampton was mishandled.

Earlier today, HFC wrote on X about the alleged video of the Hindu Sabha priest which was deemed as inciting violence. The tweet read, “we (HFC) are deeply disturbed by the recent misinterpretation of events surrounding a peaceful protest at a temple where the words of the a respected priest have been unfairly distorted to project a narrative of incitement and violence”.

The tweet further said “We are deeply disappointed by Brampton Mayor’s public handling of this situation. Not only has he remained silent in the face of rising Hinduphobia and recent attacks on temples, but he has used a suspension letter—a document that, by Ontario employment standards, should remain private—as a tool to unfairly cast Hindus in a negative light. This act singles out the Hindu community, labeling their peaceful gatherings as “violent,” while similar assemblies by other communities are celebrated as their right to free expression. Why is there a double standard when it comes to the Hindu community’s right to peaceful protest? We call on Mayor Brown, who has sworn to serve ALL Brampton residents, to address these issues with #integrity and #impartiality.”

HFC also posted the original video which is in question and requested the mainstream media to watch the video carefully and avoid drawing incorrect or preconceived biases against Hindus.

In another tweet, HFC also questioned Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown on why he has not spoken or written anything about the suspended Peel Police officer who was found guilty of attacking Hindu devotees at Hindu Sabha Temple on Sunday, 3rd November 2024. The Hindu group also asked about the next steps of action in this matter and what steps will be taken to ensure that this will not happen again in future.
