Death of Indian student leaves diaspora in shock and distress

10th April 2022 – Kartik Vasudev, a young Indian student, was killed this past Thursday evening when he was shot multiple times at the Sherbourne TTC Subway Station.

Toronto Police reported that the man was shot at the Glen Road entrance of the Sherbourne Subway Station. The victim received medical attention from an off-duty paramedic officer. However, he succumbed to his injuries caused by multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead when he was transported to the hospital.

The perpetrator of the crime is still at large and Toronto Police has asked for assistance from the public for any information they might have regarding this heinous crime.

According to the social media accounts of Kartik’s friends, he had landed in Toronto in January of this year and was a global management student at the Seneca College. His brutal killing has left his family, friends and the entire Indian diaspora in Canada in shock and distress.

The Indian Commission in Canada, Ajay Bisaria and India’s foreign minister S. Jaishankar expressed their condolences to the family.

Today, a vigil was conducted by Kartik’s friends and community members at the Nathan Philips Square in Toronto. Dozens of people gathered are asking for a speedy investigation in the case and demanded #JusticeforKartik

A similar vigil was conducted in India as well.
