Another Hindu Temple vandalized in Surrey

8th September 2023 – Shri Mata Bhameshwari Durga Devi Society in Surrey, British Columbia has become the new victim of vandalism.

This temple is the second Hindu temple in Surrey to have been attacked by vandals in a period of less than 30 days. Last month, Lakshmi Narayan Mandir in Surrey came under attack where anti-India posters were pasted on the temple walls.

In the recent attack on Thursday, 7th September 2023, the outer walls of the Durga Devi Society were painted with slogans such as ‘Punjab is Not India’ and ‘Modi is a terrorist’.

The temple management confirmed that the matter has been notified to the local RCMP unit.

Earlier a Khalistan Referendum was scheduled to take place in Tamanawis Secondary School in Surrey which got canceled after parents and community members lodged their complaints against the use of public school for political activities.

This recent attack is seen as a retaliation to above incident.

Canada and India have long locked horns on the issue of Punjab separatist movement which is seen as foreign interference by India.
