Brampton man arrested in violent carjacking investigation; had history of robbery and assault

24th February 2025 – Peel Regional Police has arrested and charged a Brampton man in relation to a carjacking that happened on 11th February 2025.

The carjacking took place in broad daylight at 11:35 A.M. when the victim was putting gas into her car, a silver Mercedes Benz C300 sedan. The woman was approached by two male suspects who were armed with knives. The suspects demanded the car keys but the woman refused. They tried to snatch the keys from her hands and threw punches at her. They then were able to take keys out of the victim’s hands and stole her vehicle. In this incident, the victim suffered minor injuries.

On Wednesday, Feb. 19, officers from York Regional Police observed a male party operating the victim’s vehicle in the area of Weston Road and Rutherford Road in the City of Vaughan. After consultation with investigators from the Peel Regional Police Central Robbery Bureau, the vehicle was stopped in the area of Pine Valley Drive and Major MacKenzie Drive West in the City of Vaughan, and the driver was placed under arrest.

Varinder Singh, a 24-year-old man from Brampton, has been charged with:

  • Robbery
  • Wear Disguise with Intent

Singh was transported back to the Region of Peel, where he was held for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

In addition to the above charges, York Regional Police have charged Singh with the following offences:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order

At the time of his arrest, Singh was on house arrest for two previous robberies, assault, mischief over $5000, and failure to comply with a release order. He was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court.

This investigation remains ongoing, and police anticipate more charges could be laid.
