Windsor Police searches for suspects in ‘hate attack’ on Hindu Temple
5th April 2023 – Last night, Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Windsor, a city in southwestern Ontario, was attacked and its walls were defaced with anti-India slogans.
The slogans read ‘Hindustan Murdabad’ (Death to India) and ‘Declare Modi Terrorist (BBC)’.
Windsor Police is investigating this attack as a hate-motivated incident. After the police was called-in, they found ‘anti-Hindu’ and ‘anti-India’ graffiti sprayed in black on the exterior wall of the temple.
Police has released a video of the attack (https://twitter.com/hindutimescan/status/1643759829498904577?s=20) which shows the two suspects in the area just after midnight. As one suspect spray-painted the wall, the other suspect kept a watch.
Windsor Police is asking residents to assist in the investigation and to share with them CCTV footage or dash-cam video between 11 pm and 1 am for evidence of the suspects.
This is the third such attack on Hindu places of worship in Canada since the beginning of the year. Earlier, two temples in the Region of Peel in the Greater Toronto Area (Shri Gauri Shankar Mandir Brampton and Ram Mandir Mississauga) were vandalized by similar messages spray-painted on the temple premises.
In previous cases, Peel Police are yet to complete its investigation. So far, no arrests have been made in this regard.
