Why are the British Grooming Gangs back in the news?

4th January 2025 – The scandalous ‘grooming gangs’ of Britain are back in the news. And yet again, Britain has failed the victims of these gangs.

Early this week, a news report from GB News confirmed that the British Home Office Minister Jess Phillips has rejected Oldham Council’s request which aimed to conduct a government-led inquiry in the sexual abuse of at least 1,500 minors.

Once the news broke, it was picked-up by Elon Musk on his social media platform X. In his numerous tweets, he attacked the Labour party including the current British Prime Minister to have failed the victims and supported the demand for a national inquiry into the crimes of child sexual abuse.

British Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch also called for national public inquiry. In a tweet, she wrote, “The time is long overdue for a full national inquiry into the rape gangs scandal….2025 must be the year that the victims start to get justice”.

According to an independent inquiry done in 2014, the majority of the victims of grooming gangs were ‘white’ girls. The inquiry concluded that the majority of the perpetrators were of Pakistani heritage. For a very long period of time and even now in some parts of media, these gangs are often referred to as “South Asian or Asian gangs”. To this the inquiry said, “Agencies should acknowledge the suspected model of localised grooming of young white girls by men of Pakistani heritage, instead of being inhibited by the fear of affecting community relations. People must be able to raise concerns without fear of being labelled racist.”

A documentary completed by GB News in February 2023 concluded that the several victims have not received justice due to “political correctness”.

Some experts believe that the grooming gangs impacted over 200,000 young girls in several cities of the United Kingdom over a period of four decades with some of its victims going back to 1980s.

Telegraph’s latest report in this regard reveals some of the horrifying incidents of abuse.

Although, the majority of the victims were the ‘white’ girls, a report published in 2018 by Sikh Mediation And Rehabilitation Team (S.M.A.R.T.) claimed that the problem of the grooming of Sikh girls by Pakistani men began in 1960s in Britain. The report also claimed that police authorities ignored the complaints for reasons of ‘political correctness’. As per the report, the groomed girl will be passed on to different members of the family after the men has taken complete control of the victim’s vulnerabilities.
