Indian NSA concluded 2-day security dialogue in Ottawa

8th February 2026 – As per the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), security agencies of Canada and India have concluded a two-day security dialogue in Ottawa.

Ajit Doval, India’s National Security Advisor (NSA), visited Canada on 6th and 7th February 2026 and met his counterpart Nathalie Drouin who is Deputy Clerk and National and Security and Intelligence Advisor to Prime Minister Mark Carney.

As per the press release done by MEA, “the two sides acknowledged the progress on initiatives aimed at supporting the safety and security of their countries and citizens.”

Both nations agreed to establish security and law-enforcement liaison officers and that their respective agencies would build on working relationships. This important step will help streamline bilateral communications and enable timely information sharing on issues of mutual concern to Canada and India, such as the illegal flow of drugs, particularly fentanyl precursors, and transnational organized criminal networks.

Discussions on cybersecurity issues also took place whereby both democratic nations committed to cooperate with each other.

This meeting is being viewed a significant development in Canada-India relations. Both nations had a rough patch while former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau held office. Canada accused India of ‘foreign interference’ and claimed to have ‘credible allegations’ against India of killing a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil.

India denied those allegations. The Foreign Minister of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar had accused Canadian political parties of vote pandering and said that they “have given these kinds of extremism, separatism, advocates of violence a certain legitimacy in the name of free speech.”
