“Canadian Security agencies unable to provide security”, Indian Consulate cancels consular camps

6th November 2024 – Indian Consulate in Toronto has informed that it has canceled some of the upcoming consular camps due to security reasons. In a tweet, it said that “In view of the security agencies conveying their inability to provide minimum security protection to the community camp organizers, Consulate has decided to cancel some of the scheduled consular camps”.

This action seems to have come in response to the recent attack on Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton, Ontario on Sunday, 3rd November 2024 while the Indian Consulate was running a consular camp in the premises of the temple.

Later, a video showed that the attackers abused verbally and assaulted the temple devotees.

Peel Regional Police later arrested 3 individuals involved in the violence.

The mistrust on the security agencies has amplified after a Peel Police Officer was found involved in the attack on the Hindu devotees. He was reported to have been suspended from his position.

A video was doing rounds on social media showing that the police officer attacked the devotees who had gathered in support of the temple after the attack took place on Sunday.

It is now being expected that the elderly and pensioners will have to bear the brunt of the ongoing situation. During such consular camps, Indian citizens are provided consular services including providing life certificates for pensioners and elderly, visa and other services. The Indian Consulate has been running such camps for Indian passport holders living or staying in Canada for several years now.
