6^th June 2023 – Investigators of the Calgary Police Service have arrested a father-son duo who may be responsible for sexual exploitation, assault and extortion of multiple teenage girls over a period of several months.

According to the police, Gurpartap Singh WALIA, 56 and his son Sumrit WALIA, 24 own Haddon Convenience Store located at 208 Haddon Road SW. The duo also own Premium Liquor Wine and Spirits located next to the convenience store where the assaults took place.

One of the victim girl aged 13, who was reported missing and later located in April 2023, informed the investigators that she was in relationship with Sumrit who provided her with alcohol, drugs and vapes in exchange for sex. The child abuse unit launched an investigation.

During the course of the investigation, the police found that the both accused were providing vapes, marijuana, cigarettes and alcohol to several underage girls in exchange for illicit sex. Police believes that several victims were trapped between December 2022 and May 2023.

On 1^st June 2023, the police arrested both the accused and search of their properties resulted in the seizure of 975 grams of cocaine with street value of $ 97,500 and seven handguns. A computer with child pornography, drugs and drugs paraphernalia, contraband tobacco, vape cartridges and collapsible batons were also found.

Sumrit WALIA, 24 has been charged with:

• one count of sexual interference with a minor,
• one count of sexual exploitation,
• one count of sexual assault,
• one count of possession of child pornography,
• one count of accessing child pornography,
• one count of creating child pornography,
• seven counts of unlawful possession of a firearm,
• one count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking,
• one count of extortion,
• three counts of uttering threats,
• one count of selling contraband tobacco to youth,
• one count of breach of a court order

Gurpartap Singh WALIA, 56 has been charged with:

• four counts of sexual assault,
• four counts of sexual interference with a minor,
• one count of selling contraband tobacco
