BAPS, Hindu Federation calls out politicians and police for being unjust and unfair towards Hindus

7th November 2024 – A strong reaction has come from BAPS Toronto and Hindu Federation after the recent attack on the Hindu Sabha temple on Sunday, 3rd November 2024.

In a strongly worded letter, the Hindu Federation wrote that “the recent unprovoked attacks on Hindu temples in Brampton and Surrey, allegedly by Canadian Khalistani extremists, along with ongoing incidents of vandalism, desecration and harassment directed at the Hindu community, demand urgent attention.”

The letter further read that, “these acts of extremism, left unchecked for decades under political patronage, have led to frustration and a profound sense of vulnerability within our community. There is great fear in the minds of Hindu Canadians that they are not protected by the law and the trust and faith that they had in the police force have dwindled after so many incidents and so little actions by politicians and police force to combat the situation”.

“It is unfair and unjust that the community’s burden of self-defence and self-expression is being used to equate us with the same extremists who instigate these threats. This false equivalency misrepresents our values and distracts from addressing the real issue at hand.”

Peel Regional Police has come under a lot of pressure after its own officer was found guilty of attacking the devotees of the Hindu Sabha Mandir. He has since been suspended from the police force.

The mistrust between Hindus and Peel Police has grown after the latter has been unable to arrest several of the attackers from 3rd November. Other than that the police was also unable to call out ro make arrests from a group of individuals who were seen with swords and sticks on Monday night despite there being video evidence available.
