Peel Police charges 6 in butter and ghee theft investigation

29th January 2025 – This must have been one of the bizarre theft investigations for the Peel Regional Police. Investigators of Peel Police have charged 6 individuals in butter and ghee theft investigation.

Last month, Police was informed of a considerable rise in theft of butter and ghee from multiple grocery stores in the Region of Peel. The stolen property has been estimated of worth $60,000. These thefts rose by 135% in 2024 vis à vis 2023 and over 180 similar incidents were reported to the police.

Police launched ‘Project Flaherty’ to investigate these thefts.

Three individuals charged with Possession of Property Obtained by crime are:

  • Sukhmander Singh, 23-year-old, Brampton
  • Dalwal Sidhu, 28-year-old, Brampton
  • Vishwajeet Singh, 22-year-old, of no fixed address

Additionally, three individuals were arrested and charged with Theft under $ 5,000:

  • Navdeep Chaudhary, 22-year-old, Brampton
  • Kamaldeep Singh, 38-year-old, of no fixed address
  • Harkerat Singh, 25-year-old, of no fixed address

The six individuals will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton at a later date.

Police continues to investigate these incidents, including which businesses are accepting these stolen products.
